EFWEX 2016 : International meeting forum for our industry

Despite fewer visitors, second edition of EFWEX was a success thanks to the quality of the visitors, attractive and diverse stands, and a world first!

  • 1964 professional visitors from 42 countries
  • Exhibitors were pleased with the quality of the visitors
  • Visitors give EFWEX a valuation of 8 out of 10

Sunday 13 to Tuesday 15 March 2016 witnessed the second edition of EFWEX in Flanders Expo Ghent. For three whole days, EFWEX was the rendezvous for national and foreign visitors from the sector for wooden flooring and walls, terraces, vinyl, laminate, design floors, and all accessories and chemicals. The exhibitors (from 12 different countries) accounted for a good 8,000m² of trade fair space. The number of exhibitors was 131 (28%) more than at the first EFWEX and there were 1964 visitors over three days.

Diverse trade fair with world firsts

The show in Flanders Expo Ghent presented itself as a fine and pleasant trade fair which gave the varied public the opportunity to get to know scores of new products and suppliers from all countries in Europe and further afield. Moreover, there was also a world first to be discovered at EFWEX. The Dutch parquet finish specialist De Vesting launched a LED-drying oil for wooden floors. This new oil offers the same benefits of fast-drying UV oils, but LED lights are sufficient instead of UV lamps. The benefits are vast: much lower energy consumption, lower CO² emissions, much less harmful lighting for the environment, and all this, moreover, without the need for a complex suction installation for the finish line.

Another first came from Ipe Latino, the Belgian specialist in terraces and wall cladding. They introduced a new wall cladding in a wood composite material, COVER 30, which is fire-resistant and conforms to the European standards for fire classes.

EFWEX gets 8 out of 10 from visitors

The diversity and quality in the range went together with an event on a human scale which covered the large hall number 8 of Flanders Expo. The visitors agreed with this assessment as a survey at the exit revealed their average appreciation to be 8 out of 10. In particular, the attractive stands, the diversity in the range from Belgium and abroad, and the free catering were praised by professional visitors.

Further investigation showed that most visitors were parquet traders, floor fitters, and interior builders or they worked in retail and wholesale for wood, floors, and interior design. Furthermore, architects and interior designers and representatives from national and international trading companies also visited the show.

1964 professionals with an attractive profile

After three days, the show had registered a visitor total of 1964 professionals. Sunday had the highest score with 755 visitors. On Monday, 697 visitors showed up, and the organisers counted 512 on Tuesday.

The total number of visitors was lower than the organisers had expected, but this was offset by the quality of the visitors. Show organiser Filip De Ridder comments, ‘The vast majority of the exhibitors said they were satisfied with this second edition of EFWEX. The quality and origin of visitors was almost unanimously praised. Even on Tuesday afternoon, the exhibitors received absolutely genuine visitors to their stands. And so, we can conclude that EFWEX is a trade fair which allows exhibitors and visitors to discover new items and practices, but it’s also a trade fair which leads to specific agreements and commitments.’

International interest

Apart from lots of professionals from Belgium, EFWEX also welcomed lots of professional visitors from outside Belgium. Obviously, visitors came from the neighbouring countries of the Netherlands, France and Germany, but also from the United Kingdom, Ireland, Italy, Czech Republic, Spain, Switzerland, Poland, Austria, Hungary, Ukraine, Denmark, Greece, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, and Rumania. EFWEX also attracted visitors from outside Europe. Amongst others, there were professionals from the USA, Tunisia, Azerbaijan, Belize, Bhutan, Benin, Bolivia, Cameroon, Canada, Ghana, Israel, Jamaica, New Zealand, the Philippines, Russia, the United Arab Emirates, Vietnam, Algeria, Morocco, Madagascar, Malaysia, and Turkey.

Visitors pampered

What was special about EFWEX was the fact that visitors had the opportunity not only to enjoy free snacks and drinks, but also to win a number of nice gadgets or handy work tools. During the three days, there were various lottery draws for Bona Spray Mops, Metabo site radios, mini-iPADs, and Samsung galaxy S smart phones. This was the organiser’s way of stressing appreciation for the professionalism of the EFWEX visitors.

Government information session about the new Belgian VOC legislation

On Monday afternoon, there was an information session planned by the Federal Government Department for Public Health and the Environment. A government official clarified the Belgian legislation regarding volatile organic compounds and other harmful chemical components for fitting and finishing floors. About thirty professionals attended this interesting presentation. At the end, a good number of them took the opportunity to ask questions about the legislation.

Visitors to EFWEX had the opportunity to see an attractive range of prestigious and attractive achievements with products from exhibitors.
